THE finale of DStv Lesotho’s “Family Summer Game Show” lived up to its billing yesterday with a lucky family finally making off with the Datsun Go top prize while others won cash, airtime and grocery prizes among others.
The competition was launched in December last year with contestants required to answer questions about the channels and programmes offered by the digital satellite service. The participants were chosen from a pool of customers who upgraded from their previous DSTV packages.
Nine families competed in the game show, with the Khubetsoana-based Kobeli family emerging as the winners of the brand new Datsun Go hatchback that successive contestants had failed to win since the beginning of the competition. The Kobelis managed to get all the five questions they were asked correct to win the sought-after prize.
On behalf of her family, a still astounded Lineo Kobeli said the vehicle would make movement easier for their elderly grandmother.
“We were representing Nkhono ‘Mapaseka Kobeli as she had to attend a funeral today,” Lineo said.
“We did not have any hope of winning the car when the game show started, but when the opportunity arose, I prayed to God that this car belongs to Granny.
“My family chose me to represent them saying I had more knowledge of television programmes. I was so nervous and did not even realise that I got all the questions right. When the host said I was the one who won, I could not believe my ears and I was over the moon with joy.”
She said her 81-year-old grandmother could now be ferried anywhere in the brand new car.
“Granny has so many errands like going to church, but if my parents have commitments with their cars, she is stranded.” Lineo said.
“This car is her blessing. I am so excited that I am considering going to fetch her at the funeral with her brand new car.”
On her part, DStv Lesotho Sales and Marketing Manager, Refiloe Mohlotsane, said the competition would continue on radio, urging Multichoice customers to continue subscribing and upgrading their boquets.
“We are going to continue running this competition on Harvest FM on Wednesdays and PC FM on Fridays until the end of March. Lucky subscribers will win prizes without having to answer any questions,” she said.
