TEENAGE sic spinning sensation, DJ Vesta, has signed a deal to join South African entertainment outfit Rock The City SA.
Owned by Lesotho-born Lehlohonolo “Hlony” Nthontho, Rock The City SA is known locally for hosting the annual BOLESWA (Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland) Intervarsity Games opening bash at Thaba Bosiu Cultural Village in March.
DJ Vesta told XpressPeople the deal followed lengthy negotiations that started after the BOLESWA festival where he was one of the performers.
“This deal will elevate and cement my career in South Africa. Landing such a deal at a very tender age shows that my talent is taking me somewhere,” said the 17 year-old Vesta, adding it was all down to focus, hard work, and most importantly prayer.
“Hlony and I first met last year during preparations for the BOLESWA Bash where I had volunteered to perform. He was impressed with my performance at the show and we started discussions about him including me in future gigs.”
The disc spinner said negotiations resumed after Hlony’s visit in July for Mekonko’s Annual Birthday Bash.
“Luckily I was among the performers at the bash and as soon as I left the stage, we discussed my joining Rock The City SA. We concluded this week and I signed with them,” he said.
Born Katiso Sematlane, Vesta made history last October by becoming the youngest artiste, aged 16, to win the prestigious Vodacom Superstar Competition in the DJ Category.
He was rewarded with the opportunity to make a debut appearance in South Africa in December playing alongside legendary disc spinner Oskido in Durban and Johannesburg.
The Naleli-born star got a chance to enhance his reputation in South Africa in July by participating in the Annual Mochini Celebrations. He toured five cities in the Free State province as part of the show in which he was the only Mosotho disc spinner.
Vesta said his attention was now on his first gig under his new label which he said would be in Port Elizabeth, South Africa on 1 October this year.
“My festive gig guide under Rock The City SA is hectic and scary since I am used to performing at smaller events at home but now I will be rocking major festivals in South Africa. I will debut in Port Elizabeth where SdudlaNoma1000 will be launching his album,” he said.
