MASERU — Discover Lesotho, the television magazine programme meant to market the kingdom’s tourist attractions, is in limbo.
After airing only three episodes on DStv’s Africa Magic Plus channel, the producers of the programme are broke.
Molotsi Productions is now scouring for financiers for the rest of the episodes which were initially supposed to total 13.
Yet Reginald Mateka, managing director of Molotsi Productions, says they had later realised they would need 26 episodes to cover all of Lesotho’s attractions.
“We are looking forward to continue with the shooting as we haven’t even covered the tip of the iceberg,” Maketa told Xpress People.
“We had planned to produce an initial 13 episodes but that is not enough to cover the tourism scope we would like cover.
“So we realised 26 episodes will offer sufficient platform.”
The Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation partly funded the production of the first three episodes which covered ‘Maletsunyane Falls, Afriski Resort, Thaba-Bosiu and Kome Cave Village among other tourist attractions.
Maketa said his company would need M1.5 million for the remaining episodes.
“There is still Thabana Ntlenyana, Sani Pass, Quthing, Qacha and Sehlabathebe National Park to be discovered, to mention but a few tourism spots,” he said.
“With reasonable time, influential partnership and sufficient funding, we will achieve the colourful success our nation can take pride in.”
