MASERU — As part of King Letsie III’s birthday celebrations, Pioneer Shopping Centre will run a six-day “Cup Cake Campaign” to honour him.

His Majesty turns 47 on July 17.

Thato Pekeche, a Pioneer Shopping Centre official, told Xpress People they had decided to come up with a new concept to celebrate the king’s birthday.

Representatives of the mall will be selling cup cakes around town and the proceeds will go King Letsie III’s Royal Education Development Trust.

“We decided to celebrate our king’s birthday in a different style where every Mosotho can be accommodated and feel part of this annual celebration,” Pekeche said.

“Rather than giving presents to the king, we decided to host the Cup Cake Campaign which we regard as a unique and special gift for our king.”

The campaign starts tomorrow and ends next Saturday, the king’s birthday.

On that day Pioneer Shopping Centre will release 2 000 balloons with meal and grocery vouchers for the lucky people who grab them.

“The 2 000 balloon section is part of the celebrations where we want Basotho to also get involved,” Pekeche said.

“Overall the concept is to make the day memorable for Basotho.”
