Quthing man stabs, rapes woman

POLICE have arrested a 26-year-old man from Ha-Kelebone in Quthing for stabbing and raping a 34-year-old woman.

According to police investigations, the woman was walking through some fields on 27 January this year when she was attacked by the suspect.

Police Spokesperson, Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli, said both the suspect and woman are from the same village.

He explained that on that fateful day, the suspect pounced on the woman, “stabbed her with a sharp object and sexually assaulted her,” Supt Mopeli said.

However, the woman screamed for help, attracting the attention of one man who also happened to be in the area.

“The man rushed to the woman’s rescue and overpowered the suspect before handing him over to the villagers. Police in Quthing attended the scene after the villagers had reported the matter, leading to the man’s arrest.”

The suspect has since appeared before Quthing Magistrates’ Court and his next appearance in court will be on Tuesday.

Leribe

Jealous husband murders wife

A jealous 31-year-old man from Motsoku village in Leribe beat his wife to death after he found her with a man he suspected was her lover.

Police have since arrested the suspect and charged him with murder. He is expected to appear in court soon.

Investigations by the police showed that sometime in January this year, the now deceased wife left her marital home to attend a funeral in another village. The husband had gone to work in the fields when upon his return he was informed that his wife had gone to attend a funeral.

The wife returned home at night accompanied by a certain man. According to Supt Mopeli, this did not go down well with the husband who became furious demanding to know whether or not his wife was cheating on him.

“The wife explained the man had accompanied her home because it was late at night but the husband was not convinced by her explanation. He started assaulting her with clenched fists and other objects,” Supt Mopeli said.

The woman was taken to the hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Maseru

Murder suspects arrested

Three Maseru men, Sekoala Rajane (40), Janabari Rajane (38) and Motsie Motsie (38), were recently arrested for the murder of a local businessman, Thabo Molisana.

The trio has since appeared before the Maseru Magistrates’ Court, where Magistrate Monyake Hlabanyane remanded them in custody pending their bail application at the High Court.

It is alleged that on 8 January, the three suspects brutally assaulted Mr Molisana whom they suspected of having an affair with one of the suspects’ wife. Following the assault, Mr Molisana was admitted at Queen ‘Mamohato Memorial Hospital where he later died from the injuries he sustained from the beating.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, police in Maseru have made a breakthrough in an investigation involving the killing of a shopkeeper who was stabbed last Sunday.

The shopkeeper later died at Queen ‘Mamohato Memorial Hospital where he had been admitted for treatment. A 20-year-old suspect was arrested this week in connection with the attack, which happened at a shop in Motse-Mocha. According to police preliminary investigations, a young man entered the shop at around 8pm and tried to steal some meat. The now deceased foiled the attempt but at a deadly cost. “The suspect struck the shopkeeper with a knife several times before he fled from the scene,” Supt Mopeli said.
