CO-FOUNDER of the newly-established Majalefa Movement, Ramahooana Matlosa, will appear before the Magistrate Court tomorrow for the court to fix a date of hearing of a case in which he is charged with sedition.
The charge arose from remarks he allegedly made on a local radio station in March 2014 during the tenure of the previous Thomas Thabane-led coalition government. He was then the Democratic Congress (DC) activist.
Mr Matlosa unsuccessfully contested the 28 February 2015 general elections in Maseru constituency under the DC banner while the case was still hanging over his head.
He is charged with sedition for allegedly saying the Dr Thabane-led government had collapsed and those who were talking about it were only talking about a dead body.
Mr Matlosa is accused of contravening section 76 (1) read with 2 (a) and Section 5 (a) and (d), as well as Section 109 of the Penal code Act of 2010 for allegedly uttering the remarks on Harvest FM on 25 March 2014.
The case is before Chief Magistrate ‘Matankiso Nthunya and Senior Crown Counsel Advocate Lesaoana Mohale is the prosecutor. Mr Matlosa is represented by King’s Counsel Salemane Phafane.
He is still on bail after paying M5 000 as bail deposit and acquiring an independent person to stand him surety of M50 000 worth of property.
As part of his bail conditions, Mr Matlosa was ordered to attend remand hearings on set dates and not to interfere with state witnesses.
