MASERU — Five local coaches from different sporting codes are expected to draw up a clear training programme for team Lesotho’s preparations for Supreme Council of Sports in Africa (SCSA).
The games are scheduled for December in Lusaka, Zambia.
Fifty-five players from athletics, netball, boxing, tennis and a team of disabled athletes have been picked to represent Lesotho in these games.
Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission (LSRC) chief executive officer Kholoang Mokalanyane said the five coaches and their assistants were expected to come up with a training programme in a few days.
“The team coaches are expected to meet in a few days and come up with a clear training programme for team Lesotho as we prepare for SCSA games,” Mokalanyane said.
Mokalanyane said the five coaches and their assistants are going to decide whether team Lesotho must hold a training camp in winter or summer.
“We are not yet sure whether to hold our training camp during winter break or towards the games hence we’ve given the five coaches and their assistants an assignment to come up with a clear training programme,” Mokalanyane said.
“They are seriously considering whether to start training camp now or as the game approaches,” he said.
Mokalanyane said the five sporting codes were selected to represent the country based on their current performance.
Meanwhile, Mokalanyane said local businesses manufacturing sports attire would be given first opportunity to supply the commission with clothing for SCSA games.
“We will try our best to give them prevalence but that will be done based on their prices, quality of the attire and if it can be produced well in time so we can present it before the nation,” he said.
There are 12 sporting codes that are going to compete at this bi-annual SCSA games.
Lesotho has decided to compete in only five sporting codes because of budget constraints.
A hosting country is given an opportunity to decide which sporting codes will be staged during the games.
