A MAFETENG businessman of Indian origin recently lost M50 000 cash when robbers broke into his hardware and furniture shop.
Siddique Randelia, who owns the Cheap Price Furniture Shop and Hardware said the robbers accessed the shop through the roof. He said he found a hole in the shop ceiling the next morning.
“The robbers took a laptop bag that had M43 000 and some of the cellphones that we sell in the shop,” Mr Randelia said.
“They also broke the till and stole M6000. Some cellphone accessories worth M2000 were also stolen.”
Police spokesperson, Inspector Mpiti Mopeli, confirmed the robbery but said no suspects had been arrested yet.
He said the case was reported to Mafeteng Police Station and investigations were underway.
Mr Randelia said his private security guard did not report for duty on the night that the crime was committed.
He also said he regrets keeping large sums of money in the shop.
“If I had a guard from an established security company, he would be liable for failing to report for duty. Also, I should not have left such an amount of money in the shop,” Mr Randelia said.
