The First National Bank Lesotho, Piri Piri Restaurant, ITEC Lesotho, Life’s Comfort Solutions (LCS) and Econo Foods on Friday launched a three-day bike-riding charity event to be held in Lifateng Village, in Mafeteng.
The event, dubbed Riders for Hope, comes to an end today.
During the fun-ride, participants were expected to be handing out clothes, toys and blankets to needy families that were chosen by the village chief and councillor.
When launching the event at Piri Piri Restaurant in Maseru on Friday, the FNB Chief Executive Officer, Emil Heppell, said the initiative was part of the financial institution’s corporate social responsibility programme.
“This is a part of our corporate social responsibility to see that we also give back to the needy as a show of appreciation to Basotho for their support,” Heppell said.
“We are hoping to make this a biannual event that will be hosted in different areas of the country to give out to the less-privileged and orphans.”
A total of 13 riders, who include two females, are participating in this initiative.
“We are appealing to other companies to join hands with us so that this initiative becomes a huge success, thereby making a difference in the lives of Basotho,” said Heppell.
He further thanked the four companies that have joined hands with FNB in making the event possible.
The LCS marketing manager, Anouchka Fiard, said his company felt the need to support this initiative “just to give back to the nation for the support it has been showing to all LCS stores countrywide”.
“We find this as the right way to give back to Basotho following the support they have been giving to our stores over the years,” Fiard said, adding LCS has given out 80 blankets in this initiative.
