MASERU — A 35-year-old man from Ha Thamae died after he was allegedly beaten by his brothers who were against his relationship with an older woman. The incident happened on October 4, according to a police report. The report said the man’s brothers had always been against his relationship with his girlfriend. The girlfriend is 44. Police spokesperson Masupha Masupha said the incident was reported by the deceased’s girlfriend who claimed to have been present when the fight started but managed to escape.
“The deceased’s siblings had in the past told their brother that they did not like his 44-year-old girlfriend,” Masupha said.
“They were saying the woman was older than their brother so they didn’t feel comfortable with their relationship.”
At one time the suspects are alleged to have asked their brother to stop bringing the woman to their rented home.
On the fateful day the man had brought his girlfriend to the house despite his brothers’ misgivings. The two men then allegedly attacked him and his girlfriend. The girlfriend however escaped but her boyfriend sustained serious injuries.
He was rushed to hospital where he died shortly after admission.
The suspects are currently in police custody and will appear in court soon. In a separate incident a 27-year-old man from Leribe was arrested for allegedly killing a 26-year-old man. According to a police report the suspect and the victim had a fight over parking space. “The two were both taxi drivers and argued over parking space. It is alleged that during the fight the suspect stabbed the (man) to death,” Masupha said. The suspect handed himself over to the police and will soon appear in court to face a murder charge.
