MASERU — A 47-year-old man from Leribe is recovering in hospital after he was found hanging from the roof in his house in Lower Thamae following a suspected botched suicide attempt last Monday. The man was in the same room with a 45-year-old woman who was found lying dead with several injuries on her head. Police spokesperson Thato Ramarikhoane confirmed the grisly incident.
“It is suspected that the woman who was found lying dead in a pool of blood might have been murdered by her boyfriend. Two knives and an axe were found in the same room,” Ramarikhoane said. The deceased had several wounds on her head. The man was rushed to the hospital where he is recovering. He will help police with investigations. In a separate incident, a 22-year-old man from Butha-Buthe was remanded in custody for allegedly sexually assaulting his 68-year-old mother.
According to the reports the suspect briefly appeared before Butha- Buthe Magistrate court on November 12. It was reported that the suspect assaulted his mother when she was trying to put a baby to bed for a nap. He pushed her on the bed and started assaulting her. The suspect then pretended he was sleeping. His mother went out to report the matter to the villagers.
He will appear again on Tuesday. Ramarikhoane said this incident has shocked the police. “We were really shocked when we heard about the incident because we are expecting the suspect to be the one who protects his mother,” he said.
