Botswana test matches postponed

MASERU — The Lesotho National Rugby team Likatola’s trip to Botswana was called off at the last minute ahead of the Tri Nations international match that was scheduled for Botswana yesterday.

According to the Lesotho Rugby federation secretary general, Litšitso Motšeremeli, the team failed to leave for Botswana on Friday after the Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission (LSRC) bus they were using for the trip was said to be not in good conditions to carry the team to Gaborone.

“The team failed to leave the country on Friday due to transport problems after the LSRC bus we were to use for the trip experienced some problems and was not in good conditions to take the team to Botswana,” Motšeremeli said.

He said the sports association body attempts to come with an alternative failed to materialise while the LSRC‘s bus will only be ready for road next week.

The Lesotho rugby team was set to face Swaziland and Botswana in international test matches that were supposed to have started yesterday.

“Our counterparts from Botswana and Swaziland have therefore agreed to postpone the matches.

He said the postponement of the test matches could be a blessing in disguise as their newly assembled will get a chance to prepare and also play friendly games.

“This could turn out to be an opportunity for us to prepare better and also get to play a few friendly matches as our rugby team is still new,” said Motšeremeli.

“We have since taken other options by playing against a squad from the Free State,” he said.
