The Motebong Village Tourism and Investment Resort has presented the Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC) with a M117 000 sponsorship.
The funding is meant for the preparation of the country’s athletics representatives at this year’s Commonwealth Games scheduled for Glasgow from July 23 to August 3.
According to the sponsorship, the six athletes, their coach and physiotherapist would be accommodated and prepared at the Motebong Village prior to the Games.
The training programme will last for 20 days — from June 7-27.
Speaking at Thursday’s signing of a Memorandum of Understanding confirming the sponsorship, the LNOC president, Matlohang Moiloa Ramoqopo, said: “This is the first time that we have received such a big sponsorship before an important sporting event. The funding will go a long way in helping our athletes prepare both mentally and physically for the Commonwealth Games.”
Ramoqopo further said the location of the Motebong Village in Ha Lejone is ideal for the athletes, due to its tranquility and altitude.
Motebong Village is on the banks of the Katse Dam, and at 2 600 metres above sea level, has the right conditions to prepare athletes for tough competitions.
“I would like to thank our new partners for this massive sponsorship that has boosted the confidence of the association and
athletes ahead of the Games,” said Ramoqopo.
Speaking on behalf of Motebong Tourism and Investment Village, Lietsiso Mohapeloa said the organisation wanted to give back to the community and decided to help the athletes in their preparations for the Commonwealth Games.
“We felt that these athletes must have good preparations, with all the necessary facilities and equipment ahead of such
an important competition,” Mohapeloa said.
“It was important that we gave sponsorship to our athletes to also make a contribution so that they go to the competition in high spirits.”
