MASERU — A team of cooks from a local catering school attained third spot at a competition held in Johannesburg on September 4.
The team of four students from Dona @ Balos Chefs School and Hospitality participated in the African Culinary Cup competition that was held at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.
The recently graduated cooks who represented Lesotho were; ‘Makhauta Khaoli, Batšoeneng Seutloali, Tšepang Tšenase and Mosalatseng Nyenye.
“I am very happy and proud of our team because this was the first time we entered an international competition. This has qualified us to the next level. We are looking forward to the next level and hope to be in the first position during the next round,” Khaoli said.
She said they learnt a lot since they were competing with teams that have experience in competing internationally.
“We are at our kitchen with my teammates preparing for the next level of the competition,” she said.
Team Lesotho had prepared a Black Forest cake and a flambéed fruit terrine on the side with an orange liqueur sauce.
The competition was organised by the South African Chefs Association (SACA) and it has invited National Culinary Teams from across Africa and the Middle East to take part in this competition.
Teams from Zimbabwe, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa, Lesotho and the United Arab Emirates competed in the challenge, and it was the team of chefs from Namibia which beat the rest of the competitors.
The competitors had created a three-course menu (starter, main and dessert) and the teams had five hours to complete their menu for thirty people.
