MASERU — Two local beauty queens were last week rewarded for putting Lesotho on the international beauty map.
Karabelo Mokoallo and Lieketseng Nkune participated at the Miss World and Miss University of Africa pageants respectively.
Maseru District Administrator (DA), Thabo Ntai, on Thursday presented floating trophies to Mokoallo and Nkune saying the two had made the country proud.
The trophies were engraved with the names of the beauty queens. They were also presented with certificates and portraits.
“This is my token of appreciation to the two young ladies who took the challenge of competing with other young beautiful ladies from across the globe,” Ntai said.
“This recognition is to also motivate them to pass their experiences down to their fellow aspiring beauties to maintain Lesotho’s spot on the modelling industry globally.”
Ntai thanked The Face of Lesotho, a local modelling agency, for grooming young beauties to participate in different competitions at the international level.
“I have had many people coming to the DA’s office telling me that they have registered an association and need my assistance but Face of Lesotho is one of the first associations to show sincerity in their work,” he said.
“I realised how serious they were when they sent Karabelo to China last year and when I heard that they were also sending Lieketseng to Nigeria early this year, I was convinced that they mean business and deserve support.”
Accepting the presents, Mokoallo said the gesture motivated them to continue recruiting and grooming young aspiring models.
“We are very happy to see that eventually our efforts have been noticed and we are very thankful.
“This is motivation enough for us to continue growing the modelling industry and putting Lesotho on the map. We hope other private entities can hear our plea and lend a hand,” she said.
Mokoallo pledged to spend time with other beauties and share her experiences.
“I promise to share my experiences with other ladies that have passion for modelling and want to take part in growing the industry.”
