MASERU — Beauty queen ‘Masello Jafeta’s reign as the Face of Rajoc has been abruptly cut short after she apparently became a mother eight months into her reign.
Face of Rajoc organiser Tlali Tlali told the Sunday Express that Jafeta, 19, had breached a contract that forbade her from getting married or pregnant during her reign.
“’Masello had signed a contract prohibiting her from having children or getting married,” he said.
“She has breached our contract so the only option we have is to take back the crown and sash from her.”
Jafeta has to relinquish her crown to first princess Bokang Lekomola.
“She has to return the crown and hand it over to the first princess,” Tlali said.
He said he had also cancelled plans to enter Jafeta into an international pageant this year.
Jafeta would not, up to the time of going to print last night, answer her phone to comment on the development.
However, sources say Jafeta — second princess in the 2009 Miss Vodacom PC FM pageant — is believed to have tied the knot with a local man in July, a few weeks before going into labour.
Jafeta’s friend who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed the beauty queen had delivered a baby boy at a private clinic in Maseru on August 11.
The 2009 Face of Rajoc pageant was held on December 9, which suggests Jafeta — assuming her baby was not delivered prematurely — could have fallen pregnant soon after she was crowned the winner.
