FORMER Miss Tourism Lesotho, Molulela ‘Mudu’ Monyake has announced plans to quit beauty pageants to focus on studying and professional cycling.

Monyake recently told Xpress People in an exclusive interview that South Africa’s Miss Jozi 2017 will be her last competition.

She auditioned along with over 1000 beauties from Johannesburg in South Africa to make it into the top 150 finalists and she is currently garnering votes to make it into the top 60.

Miss Jozi is open to girls aged from 17 to 27 and the winner is expected to be a role model and motivate the youth of Johannesburg, helping them to believe in their abilities to achieve anything they set their sights on.

The first prize includes M30 000 cash, being dressed by Everdesign for 12 months, a laptop, as well as gift cards from Virgin Hair and beauty spa services.

The first and second runners up will receive M15 000 and M5000 respectively, as well as beauty spa services, skin products and gift cards.

Monyake is a student of Exercise Management and the Maseru-born beauty told this publication that after the Miss Jozi pageant, she wanted “to focus on my studies and go into professional cycling”.

“One cannot ride a bicycle and fail to have scars so I decided to do my last pageant.

“I wanted a pageant that had a purpose and Miss Jozi’s mission statement indicates that they intend to empower women. So I thought this would build me not just something where we are awarded goodies as prizes.

“I also intend to continue organising pageants such as Miss Crown Royale and Miss Machabeng and so this pageant will also equip me with more skills,” she said.

Monyake also appealed to Basotho for votes and this can be done by sending an SMS to MissJozi Molulela to the number South African number 33282.

She said those that do not have access to South African numbers should send her Cell C airtime via Facebook.

Monyake finished as second princess at the Miss Africa Crown International 2013 contest in Sweden.

She was also first princess at the Miss Lesotho 2016 finals and represented Lesotho at Miss Tourism World 2016 in Malaysia.
