MASERU — There were scenes of jubilation at Sefika Shopping Centre yesterday after 26-year-old Mamokhathi Moroke won a brand new VW Citi Golf in the Vodacom Lesotho Summa Feva Promotion.
Moroke beat five other contestants in the final draw to drive away in the gleaming vehicle.
She also won a M1 000 grocery shopping voucher.
The Qoaling housewife — who said she sent 250 text messages in the competition — could not contain her joy as she danced and hugged her husband, tears streaming down her cheeks.
“I thank God, Vodacom and my husband for their support. I’m very excited. I am speechless,” she said.
But Moroke — who said she never thought she could emerge the big winner in the competition — revealed she would be selling the car as her home area is inaccessible.
“I will sell it and use the money to build a house.
“I don’t have the strength to do the shopping today.
“Now I can buy everything I have been thinking of getting for my family. My two children will eat whatever they want from tomorrow.”
Kokobi Makara, who won a home theatre system, said he never thought he could be a winner as “I just sent the text messages for fun.”
“I sent 250 text messages but never thought I would be this lucky,” he said.
“I have always wanted this system but could not afford it because it was too expensive. But now I have it by just sending text messages.”
Other winners walked away with groceries, cell-phones, plasma television sets, home theatre systems and cash.
Vodacom senior brand specialist, Refiloe Mohlotsane, said the promotion was Vodacom’s way of giving back to their customers.
“They are very supportive and we want to give back to our customers,” she said.
