Angry mob kills suspected thief

KOLONYAMA — A 42-year-old man from Kolonyama, in Berea district, was beaten and burnt to death by angry villagers two weeks ago.

According to the police report the villagers accused the man of stealing their livestock.

The villagers took the man to the outskirts of the village and fastened him to a tree.

They then beat him with sticks until he died.

His body was found fastened on the tree.

No arrests have been made.

Elsewhere, two men aged 23 and 25 from Mafeteng were allegedly shot and injured by a 23-year-old man on July 30.

According to the police report the suspect accused a 23-year-old man of having an affair with his wife while he was away.

“The victims were coming from a public bar in Matheneng at around 10pm. The suspect met the victims on their way home. He then shot them,” Masupha said.

“The victims were rushed to Mafeteng hospital and the 23-year-old man died the next day,” he said.

The suspect told police that he had asked someone to watch over his wife while he was at work in Bloemfontein, South Africa.

He said on his return he was told that the deceased had been visiting his wife while he was away.

He handed over a 0.38 special firearm.

The suspect will be charged with attempted murder and murder.
