Preparations are on course for three days of adrenalin rush courtesy of the first Lesotho Sky Adventure Weekend.
The event, scheduled for Malealea Lodge in Mafeteng district from April 4-6, features night and trail runs, hikes and a Mountain Bike challenge the organisers have called the ultimate adventure. The coordinator of the event, Kananelo Masia, on Friday told the Sunday Express the three-day event is an ideal getaway for the family, which should not be missed.
“We are incorporating plenty of adventure into one action-packed weekend with trail-running, mountain-biking, night-running, night-walks and other entertaining activities such as pool-competitions, and foosball,” Masia said.
The event, Masia said, begins on Friday evening with a three-kilometer night-run, followed by a Monster Mountain Bike Race and trail run on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Masia further said the intention is to hold the event every year, thereby helping boost the country’s tourism.
“We are hoping to make this an annual event as its main purpose is to improve local tourism,” said Masia.
“We have decided to use Malealea Lodge because it is a well-known tourism destination.”
The response, according to Masia, has been “great” from as far afield as the United States and Switzerland.
“The response has been great; we are expecting at least 100 participants for the event, with some of the foreign entrants coming from the United States, Switzerland and South Africa.
“We are also expecting lots of Basotho to come and be part of the fun but so far, they have not come out in numbers as expected though. But registration for the event will remain open until the event kicks off.”
