THE Maseru Mall-based Baduza Family Park will on Saturday host the inaugural Beer, Meat and Bands Festival which will also feature a cooking competition.

Several activities have been lined up including a flea market, food sampling and draught beer where brands such as Maluti Premium Lager, Castle Lite, Peroni, Miller, Carling Black Label, Hansa and Brutal Fruit will be served under the backdrop of catchy music from local and South African acts.

Featured South African acts include Jukebox (Pretoria), Acoustic Duo (Johannesburg) while Leomile and Majisto will make up the local contingent along with several disc spinners.

One of the organisers, Thato Phakisi, said the event was aimed at offering patrons a different concept of fun away from the usual nightlife.

“The idea is to have a day event for people who would not ordinarily be attracted to night events as well as to introduce day entertainment to the market as we welcome summer,” Phakisi said.

“It is not very often that you have festivals that infuse the three elements of music, meat and beer. This will give people the opportunity to celebrate with family and friends while enjoying the atmosphere created by the fusion of all the unique elements.

“There will be dozens of delicious samples from traditional likahare to cakes while SAB Miller will be responsible for mainstream beer selection,” she said in an interview this week.

She said the choice of music bands was motivated by the desire “to have music that will shake people and have them dancing and singing along”.

Phakisi said there would be cooking competitions for corporate entities.

“A draw will be conducted to choose three companies to participate in a competition where each of them will be given a budget of M1000 to buy ingredients from Shoprite (Maseru Mall).

They will be asked to prepare the Potjiekos dish (a meal prepared outdoor using the three legged pot). Scoring will be done by a professional chef and there will be prizes to be won,” she said.

Maluti Mountain Brewery, Baduza Family Park, Ba.One and Data Deal are the event sponsors.
