THE countdown has begun for the third annual Defend the Trap festival scheduled for 20 September 2019 at Yugo Night Club.
The festival is held by the Defend the Trap movement, a group of youths that aims to accommodate trap music lovers. This year’s edition of the festival will be held under the theme “Black Diamond”.
Revellers are expected to be dressed in all black attires to resonate with this year’s theme.
Organiser of the event, Teboho Moshoeshoe, said they came up with the event to accommodate the youth who love trap music.
“This year we are trying to tap into the older generations as we have only seen young people attending the previous two editions,” Teboho said.
Teboho said unlike last year when they invited South African trap artistes, this year they intend to have only local performers.
Artistes to perform at this year’s event will include Lu Srenk, Mura, Kong, Box Fresh and Trybz to name a few.
Trap is an offshoot of hip hop music that has recently gained popularity internationally with a fresh crop of artistes like Young Thug, Migos and Future among others. The genre has its roots in the late 1990s to the early 2000s in the southern United States.
