Poet releases CD

UPCOMING poet, Mampeli ‘Chilli Sauce’ Ts’iloane has released an eight track audio compact disc (CD) titled True Complete Mosotho in an effort to improve the reach of the art in the Sesotho language.

The 30 year-old who grew up in rural Bela-Bela conceded that the project had been borne out of her love for the art that was introduced to her during her high school days.

Chilli Sauce said her drive had also come from the need to deal with the negative stereotypes where many regarded poetry as boring at the expense of the message.

“I chose the title True Complete Mosotho which means being original about my culture because nowadays people are just Basotho by merely saying so,” Chilli Sauce said, adding, “we need to live it and breathe it”.

“The compilation portrays the living stories of black people mainly Basotho from their tender age to maturity. It provides knowledge and inspiration to Basotho about their background and originality because for them to succeed they need to understand themselves and what are they made of.”

Among the tracks on the album is Letsibolo which traces the life of a Mosotho to teenage, the title track which is about the life and personality of a Basotho- what they eat and the traditional rituals they perform.

Lenyalo is a track that focuses on the marriage of a Mosotho woman and the lifestyle expected of her.

So far the album has been played on Mxxl Radio 91.0 and Chilli Sauce says preparations are underway to have it played at other stations.

“I aspire to create awareness among Basotho so that they can be eager to know their origin and culture. I also want to be known as a poet with content and inspiration to other poets who want to achieve what I have achieved,” she said adding that she intended to write a book for children to learn about their culture.

Raised by her grandmother, Chilli Sauce developed a love for poetry while attending high school.

A winner of the Outstanding Woman Award in 2012, the poet is currently signed under Tipah Records with T-Herbs Motipi as her technical producer.
