LADIES in a Man Dominated Game (LMDG) will hold their inaugural awards ceremony on Saturday afternoon at AME Hall in Maseru.

LMDG president, Metlo Motaung, said the ceremony, dubbed Premier League Explosion (PLEX) will see players from the Vodacom Premier League and the Women Super Cup compete in five categories namely, the Fans’ Favourite, Ladies Man of the Tournament, Ladies Women of the Tournament, Women Super League Outstanding player and the Last Man Standing.

“For a long time we noticed that football is treated as a man’s sport and if women are involved that is usually as spectators,” Motaung said.

“So we decided to come up with the LMDG to ensure that women get more involved in football and the awards are our way of saying we are here and we want our presence to be felt.”

She said they had been forced by financial constraints to settle for just five categories.

“The plan was to accommodate as many people as we can especially those who are over looked in the premier league awards but we tried to source corporate sponsorship to no avail. That forced us to cut down the categories to five,” she said, adding, they raised funds by hosting events and contributing from their own pockets.

“It was not easy to secure funding for this initiative so we held fund-raising activities and also used members’ contributions to pay for everything. The winners will get an award and prize money.

“Preparations are at an advanced stage and all that remains is to sort out a few logistics. Hopefully by the end of this week of early next week everything will be finalised,” she said.
