THE Lesotho Boxing Association (LBA) has finally selected the five boxers who will represent the country at the Commonwealth Games from 4 to 15 April in the Gold Coast, Australia.

The five are Thabo Molefe (52kg), Moroke Mokhotho (56kg), Qhobosheane Mohlerepe (60kg) and Mokhachane Moshoeshoe (69kg) (all in the male category) and one female, Mantoa Ranone (57 kg).

The final list was announced in the aftermath of the recent three-day tournament in the Gauteng province in South Africa which was organised by the Gauteng Boxing Organisation.

Lesotho sent a 12-member team which was subsequently trimmed to five boxers to represent the country at the Commonwealth Games.

LBA spokesperson, Katiso Tšenoli, said they had also put three boxers (Tlholohelo Mokhesi 49kg, Bokang Khoai 64kg and Kokole Paneng 75 kg) on standby and these would continue training with the rest of the team.

“We are done with the selection and there is a team of five members who will join the rest of 22-member Team Lesotho for the Commonwealth Games, Tšenoli recently told the Sunday Express.

“We have assembled the best team and we are confident that all the boxers will fly the national flag high with their performances. Apart from the five, we also selected three reserves in case something happens to any of the five.”

Tšenoli said they will take part in the Zone IV tournament later this month in Mozambique as part of their preparations.

Meanwhile, cyclists, Phetetso Monese and Likeleli Masitise finished 26th and 18th in the elite men and elite women categories respectively at the recent South African Championships. They participated as part of their preparations for the Commonwealth Games.

Masitise and Monese will be joined at the Commonwealth Games by Tumelo Makae and Malefetsane Lesofe who are currently at the World Cycling Centre in Potchefstroom, South Africa.
