The Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC) on Friday handed over certificates to 25 graduates following their qualification as Grading Assessors.

The graduates were part of a group of 29 people who undertook a grading programme in June last year with International Hospitality School—a renowned South African school.

The LTDC arranged for the training with the aim of improving grading assessment offered to accommodation establishments. The programme was part of the corporation’s to enhance its Quality Star Programme. The certification would enable the graduates to, among other things, train accommodation establishment staff as well as work as consultants in the hospitality industry.

LTDC Grading Awards Committee chairperson, Motlatsi Rametse, said the corporation was confident the course had equipped the participants with the necessary skills to impart their knowledge towards improving the country’s hospitability industry.

“These participants have undergone a month-long training programme with a highly recognisable institution in the SADC region and are therefore, guaranteed that they will deliver quality service in the hospitality sector,” Mr Rametse said.

“They have undergone a high quality training which would enable them to assess different areas of the hospitality industry. Their qualifications are going to enable them to train accommodation establishment staff operating from different stations, be it someone from the front-desk or kitchen staff.

“The trainings have been conducted mindful of the standards set by the Regional Tourism Organisation of Southern Africa (RETOSA) to ensure our establishments are at par with others in our region.”

One of the graduates, Tebello Mothabeng said the programme had helped boost her confidence in doing her job.

“This training has got me looking forward to taking over training because we have been equipped with adequate skills to attain quality in our establishments. We are now accredited by Culture Art Tourism Hospitality and Sports Sector Education and Training Authority, which gives credibility to our work.

“Through the programme and the accreditation, we can now host workshops and award certificates of participation to attendees. We work with LTDC to identify and offer accommodations advise as to how they could improve their services.

“The training has helped me boost my skills as an individual consultant. Through my company , ‘Training Camp’, I will now afford Basotho lacking the required standards courses that would help elevate their businesses,” Mothabeng  said.
