Boost for Likuena
MASERU — Lesotho senior national team, Likuena, will have both their away and home kit when they play their remaining 2014 World Cup qualifiers early next year. The away kit was unveiled by clothing brand, Basutoland Ink, at Bambatha Tšita on Thursday. Lesotho Football Association public relations officer, Baba Malephane, told a media briefing that they are very relieved that the team will have the two sets of jerseys for their remaining games against Zambia, Ghana and Sudan.
“It is always safe to have two different colours when the team is playing in tournaments such as the World Cup qualifiers and we should applaud our partners for the good job,” Malephane said. He appealed to the sports fraternity living inside and outside the country to support the team by getting their replica jerseys. Speaking at the same function, Basutoland Ink managing director, Karabo Maitin, thanked the football governing body for giving the clothing brand a chance to partner with them.
“We launched the green national team home jersey last year before the opening World Cup qualifying matches and we are glad that the away kit is also here,” he said. Basutoland Ink signed a five-year kit-sponsorship deal with the Lesotho Football Association (Lefa) last year and has since provided the organisation with the national team’s set of the “home” kit. The sponsorship also includes the provision of playing uniforms for the Under-15, 17, 20, 23 and ladies’ national soccer teams.
Likuena is rooted at the bottom of Group D with only a point after a goalless draw against Sudan earlier this year.
Leslie Notši’s team lost 0-7 to Ghana in the opening match of the qualifiers in June. They host Zambia in Maseru early next year.
